Paul Berenger, in a bid of exaggeration for sensational politicking, warned Navin Ramgoolam against creating a situation of mass rebellion by likening Mauritius with Brazil and Turkey. In these two countries the disgruntlement of the common man has given to such proportions that thousands of people have taken to the streets of Sao Paulo or invaded the Taksim square to protest against the breach between the rulers and the ruled. One has the slight suspicion that the opposition that has been exhausted of political debate through parliamentary means or through the free media takes pleasure in the street demonstration of the mass to provoke them. In fact, we wonder to what extent we are convinced of the need for such extreme measures.
